President Trump is Playing 3D Chess: Secures Alina Habba as Acting U.S. Attorney for New Jersey
Habba’s 120-day term as interim U.S. Attorney was set to expire on July 25, 2025.

President Donald Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi have once again outmaneuvered leftist obstructionists, ensuring Alina Habba remains New Jersey’s top federal prosecutor as Acting U.S. Attorney. On July 24, 2025, Habba announced her new role on social media, defying a group of activist federal judges who sought to remove her from office.
Habba’s 120-day term as interim U.S. Attorney was set to expire on July 25, 2025. On July 22, New Jersey’s district court judges, many appointed by Obama and Biden, voted to replace her with Desiree Leigh Grace, a career prosecutor and Habba’s first assistant. The decision followed pressure from House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who urged the judges to oust Habba over her indictment of Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-N.J.). Hours later, Bondi fired Grace, calling the judges “rogue” for threatening the president’s constitutional authority under Article II.
Trump and Bondi swiftly countered the judges’ move. Habba resigned as interim U.S. Attorney, and Trump withdrew her nomination for the permanent role, sidestepping the Federal Vacancies Reform Act, which bars Senate nominees from serving as acting officers. Bondi then appointed Habba as First Assistant U.S. Attorney, automatically elevating her to Acting U.S. Attorney due to the vacancy. This strategic maneuver allows Habba to lead the office for at least 210 days.
“I don’t cower to pressure,” Habba stated on X. “I don’t answer to politics. This is a fight for justice. And I’m all in.” Her leadership has focused on tackling crime, including launching a Fentanyl Precursor Interception Strike Force and an Election Integrity Task Force, earning praise from Justice Department leaders.
The Article III Project, led by Mike Davis, filed a judicial complaint against the judges, accusing them of violating judicial conduct codes by bowing to Jeffries’ political pressure. This victory showcases Trump’s relentless commitment to overcoming leftist resistance, ensuring his trusted ally Habba continues to fight for law and order in New Jersey.
